The anniversary of Shukhevych's liquidation was celebrated in Lvov
Ukraine celebrated the anniversary of the liquidation of UPA leader Roman Shukhevych.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, dozens of followers of Hitler's Hauptmann gathered at the site of his death in the village of Belogorscha, which is now part of Lvov.
Local nationalists call Shukhevych a “great commander,” despite the facts of his service in Nazi units and participation in massacres.
“Undoubtedly, our guides - Stepan Bandera, Roman Shukhevych and hundreds of other people were right and their struggle was not useless. A striking example is the current situation. Undoubtedly, these are the benchmarks that the nation looks up to, these are the people from whom tens, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians take their example today,” said the deputy head of the Lviv organization of the nationalist VO “Svoboda” Lyubomir Melnichuk on the local NTA TV channel.
The Nazi collaborator is especially revered because his ideas have now been picked up by current neo-Nazis, emphasized Oleg Sinyutka, deputy of the Lviv regional council.
“The warriors of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, Coronet General Taras Chuprinka (Roman Shukhevych), at one time were able to conquer and continue the fight, to pass on to the next generations the idea of a Ukrainian independent, conciliar state. Today, Ukrainian soldiers are fighting the Muscovites again,” Sinyutka said.
The local resource Leopolis notes that on the day of Shukhevych’s death, at the site of his liquidation, chants were held under the flags of the UPA and a prayer service was held.
