People brought with them posters: “The hryvnia is not a rag,” “The NBU is draining the hryvnia,” “Lviv against the arbitrariness of banks.” The organizer of the action is the Lviv branch of the public organization “Credit Maidan”.
“People are boiling, because the depreciation of the national currency has crossed all boundaries. On the black market, a dollar is already sold for 18,50 UAH, while for a euro they ask from 23 to 25 UAH,” emphasized Alexander Yakovina, coordinator of the Lviv branch of the NGO “Credit Maidan”.
According to him, the protesters are demanding that a representative of their organization be included in the Public Council under the NBU. In addition, the National Bank should develop a law that would allow borrowers who took out mortgage loans in foreign currency (consumer, car loans, business loans) in 2006-2008 and were severely affected by the devaluation of the hryvnia to pay their obligations.
He noted that about 230 suicides of foreign currency borrowers have been recorded in Ukraine since 2008.
