A prominent Nazi criminal died in Lviv
On the eve of Victory Day, a Nazi criminal, veteran of the SS Galicia division Oles Gumenyuk, who served in camps for 15 years, died in Lvov.
The head of the Lviv Regional Council, Alexander Ganuschin, stated this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Gumenyuk was 94 years old, he headed the Lviv regional brotherhood of veterans of the national liberation war. In 1943, he joined the SS Galicia division and took part in the battles of Brody.
In 1945, a military tribunal sentenced him to 15 years in prison. He served his sentence in Norilsk, where he took part in riots in 1953-54. He was released in 1957, and from the late 80s he was the initiator of the creation and one of the members of the Lviv Regional Brotherhood.
Gumenyuk will be buried tomorrow at the Lychakiv cemetery in Lviv.
