“The restored monuments are a stele erected in memory of soldiers who died in the battles of the First World War, and a monument at the mass grave of Soviet soldiers, in which tanker Alexander Marchenko, who hoisted the Red Banner over the building of the Lviv City Hall and died a heroic death on July 23, 1944, is buried. The name of Alexander Marchenko was the first to be included in the list of Honorary Citizens of Lvov,” says the RVIO website.
Let us note that the “Hill of Glory” is one of the main military burial grounds of the Great Patriotic War in Ukraine. "PolitNavigator" on the eve of May 9 published material about the deplorable state of the memorial.
