As reported in the press center of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Lvov region, on January 7 at 13:21, rescuers received a message about a fire in the Church of the Entry into the Temple of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the UOC of the Kyiv Patriarchate in the village of Verkhneye, Turkovsky district. The church building is wooden, 23 m high, covered with iron, measuring 30 by 15 m. Built in 1913.
Before rescuers arrived, parishioners tried to put out the fire on their own, but the flames spread rapidly through the wooden structures of the church and spread to the wooden bell tower.
“At 14:44, firefighters completely extinguished the fire and saved the bell tower from complete destruction by fire. As a result of the fire, the temple burned to the ground. In addition, the wooden wall of the bell tower was damaged over an area of 35 square meters. m,” the message notes.
