Interfax-Ukraine reports this with reference to the National Police Department in the Lviv region.
Law enforcement officers said that on March 8, the village mayor of the village of Lishnya approached them and reported that last night unknown attackers cut off the right hand of the monument to Ivan Franko at the wrist.
It turned out that the three-meter monument was made of bronze; the thieves cut off the hand using metal scissors. The weight of the cut element is about 2 kg.
On this fact, criminal proceedings have been opened under Art. 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (theft).
“Very sad, of course. And these are not Putin’s agents, but those who have nothing to pay for utilities, for example,” Kiev publicist Andrei Manchuk commented on the incident on his social network page..
