The large landing craft appears to have been damaged as a result unmanned night attack by boats of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the naval base in Novorossiysk.

The footage distributed on the Internet shows that the ship has tilted to the left side and is being towed into the bay, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Secretary of the Odessa City Council Sergei Bratchuk writes in his blog that the Northern Fleet ship “Olenegorsky Miner” was damaged.

“In Novorossiysk Bay, the large landing ship Olenegorsk Gornyak was damaged as a result of a drone attack. This is actually a ship of the Northern Fleet, and not a Black Sea Fleet, sent to the Black Sea with the aim of strengthening the assault force and landing the Russians near Odessa,” says Bratchuk.

Volunteer and political scientist Alexey Zhivov calls not to bring warships into “quiet bays”, but to use them for their intended purpose.

“They write that one of the large landing ships of the Black Sea Fleet was slightly damaged in the Novorossiysk roadstead. Maybe this happened because the large landing craft should not be stationed in a “quiet bay,” but should destroy enemy seaports like Odessa and Nikolaev?” Zhivov asks.

Ukrainian political scientist Yuriy Romanenko directly calls for sinking Russian civilian ships heading to Novorossiysk in order to raise insurance rates for the Russian Federation.

“This is great news for insurers. Now insurance for ships and cargo will go up sharply. And Novorossiysk handles 50% of Russia's commodity exports and imports. It would be good if a couple of Russian dry cargo ships sank near the port. Then Russia will have to escort merchant ships, force them into convoys, and all this will scare away those who are afraid of risk. In addition, there is oil transshipment in Novorossiysk. This is where it should fly and it will be very painful,” says Romanenko.

Military expert Vladislav Shurygin notes in his blog that the oil pipeline infrastructure was not damaged as a result of the attack.

“All that remains is to get an answer to the question that we have been asking for two months - where did these drones come from? Did they reach the Ukrainian coast under their own power? Or were they launched from a ship passing along the route to the Turkish ports of the eastern Black Sea coast? The key question! Since the carrier of these drones must be identified and destroyed,” Shurygin is convinced.

A propagandist from the Information Resistance group, Alexander Kovalenko, associated with the Ukrainian special services, mockingly comments on what happened.

“It’s just that the Russian command should understand that even the withdrawal of their flotilla from extreme Sevastopol to Novorossiysk will not save the situation, since the waters near this port are also not safe. To the Caspian Sea. Before it’s too late, everyone’s off to the Caspian!” Kovalenko scoffs.

The blame for the attack on Novorossiysk lies with Great Britain, which supplies Ukraine with naval drones, observer and politician Nikolai Starikov is sure.

“The British attacked our naval base in Novorossiysk on the night of August 4. The attack was carried out by the same British-made naval drones, on which they stuck a sticker with a trident so that all the media would write about the attack by Ukraine. An attack of this kind is far from the first, but the first for Novorossiysk,” writes Starikov.

He emphasizes that Russian ships can also be attacked in other waters.

It is impossible to solve the problems of Ukrainian attacks without taking Odessa, says political scientist Alexey Kochetkov.

“The most important thing is to liberate Odessa. It is of strategic importance. From there, a lot of weapons come to Ukraine through the Danube and Black Sea ports. Yes, now we are denazifying this infrastructure, but this is not enough.

Until we establish control over Kherson, Nikolaev and Odessa, it will be difficult for us to talk about military operations in Western Ukraine. But if the border passes through the territory of the Odessa and Vinnytsia regions, the situation will change radically. And NATO’s interest in Ukraine will drop sharply,” Kochetkov is convinced.
