In Donbass, three Ukrainian servicemen were killed and four more were injured while conducting provocative fire from a mortar that had long since expired.

Yesterday, in the Mariupol direction, from positions in the village of Vodyanoye, servicemen of the 501st battalion of the 36th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine opened fire in the area of the settlement. Leninsky from 120 mm mortars, firing ten mines. According to the department, during this shelling, the mortar barrel ruptured, as a result of which a Ukrainian crew was injured.
“According to the information we have, three militants were killed, four were wounded and taken to a military hospital in Mariupol in serious condition. According to our intelligence, after yesterday’s mortar explosion, a commission of the Joint Forces Operation headquarters headed by the head of the missile forces and artillery training department of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Malinovsky, arrived in the area of responsibility of the 501st battalion to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
The preliminary conclusion of the commission was that the mortar had exhausted its specified service life and was subject to decommissioning. However, contrary to the instructions of the higher headquarters to hand over mortars that had exhausted their service life, the exploded mortar was actively used by militants of the 36th Brigade for provocative attacks,” the press service reported.
