During the recent missile attack on Ukraine, where several Kinzhal hypersonic missiles were used at once, Russia practiced a combined attack on NATO headquarters, bypassing air defense.
Military experts stated this on the Red Line TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Thus, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Missile and Artillery Sciences, military expert Konstantin Sivkov believes that using six “Daggers” at once was inappropriate.
“To hit the targets that needed to be hit as part of this strike, the Kinzhal was not needed, strictly speaking, since there is no serious air defense in Ukraine, so it would be easy to solve problems using Kalibr or some other weapons systems.
I believe that the use of, especially six Kinzhal-type missiles, is due to one thing - the need to test the joint use of different types of weapons in combat conditions as part of a strike. That is, the so-called combined strike. When hypersonic weapons are used, and for the first time in the history of mankind this is not a single launch, but six missiles at once - this is a very important moment.
The second question is testing the use of these weapons in combination with cruise missiles and then developing success through the use of drones of the Geranium-2 type. Now, a combined strike to work out the issues of hitting targets within the framework of a powerful air defense system; the use of such a strike is the most effective way to use such air defense and suppress it.
That is, a method was worked out for solving the problem of defeating not the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but the NATO armed forces, in particular, a group of armed forces that have powerful air defense, have radar patrol aircraft, ground-based radars that could solve the problem of destroying cruise missiles, preempting a six-missile strike, maybe 10-12 missile strike "Daggers".
Key elements of the air defense system are disabled, such as radar stations in the most important directions, command posts, anti-aircraft missile systems, the most dangerous. Then cruise missiles went into this “hole”, finishing off the air defense system, destroying key objects, then Geraniums went in, which finish off some other objects, and then we solved the problem, the air defense breakthrough worked,” Sivkov said.
Director of the Museum of Air Defense Forces Yuri Knutov emphasized that Russia showed the ability to use “Daggers” to hit NATO headquarters, which is why, a short time after the attack, the American Air Force simulated a nuclear strike on St. Petersburg.
“We were struck by the shadow NATO headquarters, which is located on the territory of Ukraine and carries out the tasks of leading the group. In addition, one of the air defense command posts was hit and the positions of the NASAMS, Iris-T complexes and Patriot positions were disabled. Patriot has not yet been imported, but the elements are present, that is, the position itself exists.
That is, it was a blow to the virtually integrated NATO air defense system, including command posts and headquarters. I may be wrong, this is my point of view, that this demonstrative attack of the B-52 on St. Petersburg was connected with this, when it passed over the Baltic Sea, went to the island of Kotlandt and from a distance of 200 kilometers simulated the electronic launch of cruise missiles at the city...
For the future, in any case, we have shown that we have the ability to destroy the NATO air defense system, quite effectively, accurately and practically without any opposition from the Ukrainian air defense system and NATO complexes that are delivered directly to Ukraine,” Knutov said .
