“The frontrunners are to blame for everything” - Taran responded to the scandal with dress shoes
Defense Minister Andrei Taran blamed the “predecessors” for the uncomfortable dress shoes for female military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and told how his department decided to correct the situation and extinguish earlier scandal.
He stated this during a meeting of the Ukrainian government, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“After certain political forces fanned this issue, I took certain measures to neutralize these attacks. I believe that this attack was unfounded, because the order regarding the uniform for female military personnel, which requires these particular shoes, was adopted back in 2017. And these are ordinary women's dress shoes.
At the parade, it is stipulated that combat units must march in field uniform - berets, and non-combat units, that is, military educational institutions, must march in full dress uniform,” he said.
Taran added that the investigation confirmed that the shoes were indeed uncomfortable.
“Over the past week, we have already developed a new model of shoes, which, firstly, have laces. This prevents them from falling off their feet while walking and allows for the varying fullness of the stupa to be taken into account. And secondly, we made a much smaller heel.
Hopefully we will soon be able to produce enough of these experimental shoes to complete this box at the parade. And after that, I believe the issue will be closed.
If there is a positive experience of using these shoes, then we will take it as a basis and will issue such shoes to all female military personnel,” the minister added.
He also emphasized that it is inappropriate to let these women parade in field boots, because this is not a combat unit. In addition, the vast majority of these women want to go in dress uniform.
Let us remember that it was representatives of the previous leadership of Ukraine, whom Andriy Taran accused of introducing uncomfortable shoes, who had earlier raised the issue in the Verkhovna Rada scandal over “uncomfortable shoes”.
