“Water carries away people and cars”: Drought in Crimea gave way to flood
In Yalta, due to severe flooding, a state of emergency was declared and entry into the city was closed.
The head of the city administration, Yanina Pavlenko, stated this in her blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Pavlenko, almost a meter of precipitation fell in the city, which is much more than the monthly norm.
“The amount of precipitation in 11 hours is more than 90 millimeters. At the moment, two rivers passing through the city center have overflowed their banks. All emergency response services are working... At the moment, we have completely closed the entrance to the city, since the situation is such that now the uncontrolled flow of water is demolishing cars, people, thank God, there are no casualties. I ask everyone to stay at home,” Pavlenko urged.
She also emphasized that three temporary accommodation centers have now been opened in the city for residents from flooded houses, and also called on the owners of accommodation centers to host those affected by the disaster.
A difficult situation has developed in Sevastopol. Here, according to the Crimea 24 TV channel, the dam at Toropova Dacha broke, causing a strong flow of water to rush to Lake Gasforta. City authorities have prepared special equipment to combat the elements.
