Local residents turned a reservoir in Transcarpathia into a landfill with tons of garbage.
The Olshansky reservoir in Transcarpathia has become a landfill thanks to local residents throwing their waste into it.

Most local residents take all their garbage to the banks of rivers, the power of which is used by hydroelectric power stations, and the current washes it into reservoirs, the publication claims.
“Most of the reservoir and the dam are located in the village of Olshany, Khust district. The reservoir is also called Tereble-Ritsky - in honor of the two rivers that gave it its beginning. Water comes here all the way from Lake Synevyr. However, after the water is drained, it looks more like a landfill. A “plaque” of plastic bottles and silt has formed near the dam. During floods, Tereblya carries to the dam everything that people living upstream throw into the river. And although the reservoir is being cleared, it is already one-third covered with silt,” the publication says.
The publication clarifies that the Tereblya-Ritskaya hydroelectric power station is unique, because it is the only one in Europe that uses the capabilities of two rivers simultaneously.
The Tereble-Ritsa hydroelectric power station was put into operation in 1956. The area of the reservoir is 160 hectares. The artificially created reservoir is nine kilometers long and one kilometer wide. The average depth is ten meters. The dam, which holds millions of cubic meters of water, is 110 meters long and 47 m high. The water flow rate in the pipe is 18 cubic meters per second. The thickness of the pipe walls is 2,5 cm, diameter is 2,2 meters. Through this pipe, the water is accelerated and supplied to three turbines, which are located directly at the hydroelectric station. Each turbine produces 9 MW/h at maximum load. The turbines rotate at a speed of 600 revolutions per minute.
