“The Russians are taking the water”: Ukrainian newspaper accused the Russian Federation of shallowing the Desna River
The Chernigov regional newspaper Mir-info blamed the drought and lack of water in the Desna River on Russian industry and the Ukrainian rich.
This is stated in an article devoted to drought in the region, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The author of the material puts forward two versions that the main river of the Chernihiv region began to dry up.
“One version of the international plan is that Russia takes water from the Desna in the upper reaches... About 500 kilometers of the Desna are in Russia. On its banks are the cities of Yelnya in the Smolensk region, Trubchevsk and Bryansk in the Bryansk region. So, the version that stubbornly circulates among people is that Russians take water for their industrial needs... There is another problem - the pollution of the Desna River with wastewater from Russia,” the article says.
In the second version, the author sees “rich people” who tear up the coastal zones near Kiev in order to build luxurious mansions and during high waters discharge water downstream through dug canals. Thus, instead of flowing into the Desna, flood waters flow into fields in the Kyiv region.
The publication in the Chernigov newspaper and the author’s conclusion clearly demonstrates the attitude of Ukrainians to all problems when someone is blamed, but not themselves, the head of the Union of Search Squads of Ukraine Dmitry Zaborin emphasized in his blog:
“There is no version that it is necessary to clean the stakes and river beds below, not to plow up the banks, not to thoughtlessly pull water for irrigation from wells, not to cut down plantings and forests. And where does it come from? We can’t be to blame,” comments Zaborin.
