Military acceptance of the Ministry of Defense refuses to allow the BTR-4 for operation in the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The state enterprise “Zhytomyr Armored Plant” has suspended the work of the workshop for the production of BTR-4 hulls, since due to outdated legislation the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine does not accept them into operation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
About it The press service of the state concern Ukroboronprom reported.
Military acceptance of the Ministry of Defense refuses to allow the BTR-4, the hulls of which are made of armored steel produced by the countries of the European Union and NATO, to be used by the troops, the concern said in a statement.
“The situation looks absurd, because the armored steels from which combat vehicles are produced in the USA, Germany, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and other countries of the world are recognized as unsuitable for Ukrainian armored vehicles,” notes Ukroboronprom.
The non-admission of European armored steels will cause critical problems at other factories of the concern, as well as in private companies, the concern believes.
“The serial production of new combat vehicles depends on the supply of armor steel and is designed for its import from EU countries. After all, the only enterprise in Ukraine for welding hulls made of Ukrainian armored steel – the private Lozovsky Forging and Mechanical Plant LLC – is not able to meet the needs of the Ukrainian army,” the report said.
“Ukroboronprom” emphasized the need for an early legislative solution to the problem of standardization.
The BTR-4 is designed to replace the Soviet-made armored personnel carriers available in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
