Martial law will hit the rights and wallets of Ukrainians – opinion
The introduction of martial law will have a negative impact on the country’s economy and will significantly affect the rights and freedoms of Ukrainians.
Political scientist Kirill Molchanov stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We already see that the hryvnia has fallen against the dollar. There will definitely be a speculative collapse in the exchange rate and panic in society. All this will negatively impact even the modest forecasts included in the budget for next year. In conditions of martial law, it is still possible to arrange manual budget regulation, I think that this will interest Groysman. You don’t need to be a great expert here to understand that the martial law in the current conditions will not add anything in terms of combat effectiveness, the protection of our borders, the situation in Donbass and Crimea, but will significantly affect the rights and freedoms of our citizens. And, by the way, now there is no longer any need to hold any meetings of the National Security and Defense Council to take away licenses from 112 Ukraine and Newsone, they can simply be seized manually,” he believes.
According to Molchanov, the logic in introducing martial law was exclusively in 2014.
“At that time, this could have given something to the defense of Ukraine. Then, as they explained to us, martial law cannot be introduced, because elections must be held. Those. It was necessary to carry it out then, but not now? And now they are telling us that it’s okay if we endure it.” - said Molchanov.
