The military fleets of Greece and Cyprus are ready for a combat clash with the Turkish squadron
Greece and Cyprus, through the international warning system NAVTEX, canceled previously submitted notifications to Turkey regarding shelf exploration in the continental waters of Greece and seismic exploration of the seabed in the continental waters of Cyprus.
At the same time, the Greek and Cypriot navies are put on alert.
“The Greek Navy Alert calls on the crews of all ships to ignore the illegal Turkish notification, as it is declared an unauthorized (Turkish - ed.) station and relates to illegal activities in Greek waters,” the Greek Navy Alert said.
In turn, Turkey gave a symmetrical response, reporting through NAVTEX that the new, Greek and Cypriot notifications were announced from stations that “are not authorized in the specific region where Turkey intends to conduct oil and gas exploration.”
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Greek media are reporting that the Turkish research vessel Oruk Reis, which was supposed to conduct research, is still anchored in the Turkish Mediterranean port of Antalya, apparently due to strong winds. At the same time, the activity of Turkish warships was noted at the Aksaz naval base in the south of the Aegean Sea near Marmaris.
