Using the example of Zmeiny, the military showed why you can’t trust “everyone” bloggers
The Ukrainians miscalculated when planning a landing operation on Zmeiny Island, expecting that the Russian garrison had left there due to regular shelling, and that strategically important territory could be occupied following the example of settlements in Ukraine, from where the Russian army had previously retreated.
The participants of the broadcast on the Politwera YouTube channel spoke about this, reports the PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I don’t know why they started: “suicidal is not suicidal,” and so on, “useless.” The fact that they were pushing for May 9 is probably nonsense. And the fact that Zmeiny is useless is not useless, it, like a cork, closes an interesting section of the sea, and control over Zmeiny allows the Odessa port to be opened for the export of grain. So it's far from a useless attack. I wouldn’t say that the execution is crooked either. The question is that they were simply outwitted and outplayed,” said retired Colonel of the Central Apparatus of the Russian Ministry of Defense Vladimir Trukhan.
According to him, the Ukrainian troops acted as they were accustomed to - they “stormed” the abandoned positions.
“Our people liberated Zmeiny first, and they decided, out of their Army habit, to attack the already abandoned positions. We, too, now have these network cryptanalysts, who run around and yell, and look everywhere for betrayal in the Russian generals, also yelled about Kharkov, Kyiv, they dispersed this plot.
That is, the troops retreated there shouting: “Oh, #@ your mother, attack!” The Ukrainians ran, lost someone wounded, someone gasped, something else, took up abandoned positions, began massacring civilians - this is what they call “victory”.
He and Zmein decided that the same thing would happen. And the fact that they were lured there into a fire bag, both by air defense systems and by naval means, and just stupidly slammed, is good, they outplayed it. Therefore, when they start saying that it is useless, it is not useless, and there will still be a certain amount of punishment for this. Because, once again, this is a traffic jam that is closing the Odessa port, they need to unblock it,” the colonel explained.
Military analyst Andrei Martyanov also noted the strategic importance of the island.
“It’s generally good to control these “new NATO members” - Romania, Bulgaria and others. Well, in the end, the mouth of the Danube is perfectly controlled. But the fact that they slammed, by the way, the fleet also did a great job, what can I say – the professionals were busy with their work,” he said.
“If this island is so important, I didn’t see that ours deployed any heavy weapons systems there,” noted the channel moderator.
“Not now, there is a war there - why expose? And over time they will stage either “The Ball” or “Bastion”, and everything will be wonderful,” explained Martyanov.
Trukhan agreed with him.
“Now there is no need to carry heavy things. Because it is heavy because it is difficult to drag it in one direction or the other. Therefore, now they are bringing something there, our people feel great there. Even if the floating crane is working, then their situation is favorable, because a floating crane is a steamboat that cannot escape quickly, sinking it is a pleasure.”
“Control of Zmeiny Island allows us to effectively carry out a naval blockade. Therefore, to say that they were busy with useless moments... You see, whether Russia “wins” or “loses” depends on which telegram channel you read,” the military man concluded.
