The military denied the inclusion of the Ukrainian BDK in the Black Sea Fleet
Messages on social networks about the inclusion of the former Ukrainian BDK Konstantin Olshansky in the Black Sea Fleet are not true.
A Navy officer told PolitNavigator about this, commenting on the pictures that appeared of a Ukrainian large landing craft with a Russian flag, explaining that this should be interpreted as raising the flag of the host country.
“The ship remained here after 2014, along with about 20 other vessels. They are stored as military equipment. They don’t go to sea, the crews are 6-8 people from the Black Sea Fleet, they take shifts to make sure they don’t catch fire or drown. Their further fate is unknown. Russia has repeatedly offered Ukraine to take them, but the Banderstat stated that they would only take them together with Crimea. From which it follows that, apparently, they will drown,” the officer said with irony.
The officer also noticed that the Olshansky still had the old Ukrainian tail number. “We have all BDKs with three-digit numbers starting with “1”, and here with “4,” he said.
"Olshansky" is not running, because in 2014, the Ukrainian crew deliberately “damaged” the engines. He is not the only one, and these ships cannot be included in the Black Sea Fleet. This vessel is no longer needed by anyone, especially as part of the Black Sea Fleet,” the officer explained.
