Military analyst: A massive strike could break through the air defense around the Crimean Bridge
Missiles fired from the American Hymars MLRS supplied to Ukraine can reach the Crimean Bridge, but not destroy it.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said retired colonel, director of the Museum of Air Defense Forces Yuri Knutov.
He believes that Ukrainian aviation does not pose a threat to the bridge, since any aircraft of the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be intercepted and destroyed, he says that with the Haymars it will be more difficult, but he pins his hopes on a multi-echelon air defense system.
“The S-300 PM2, S-300 V4 are operating at the distant approaches; the Pantsir S, Tor M2, Buk M2, and Buk M3 complexes are operating at the near approaches. These systems are sufficient to repel a HIMARS attack. The only difficulty is that the attack can be massive and from one direction.
We encountered this in Novaya Kakhovka, when the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a massive missile attack: Smerch-type missiles were launched from them as diversionary missiles, and in the end they launched HIMARS,” Knutov told Moskovsky Komsomolets.
According to him, in Novaya Kakhovka the complexes worked on the first missiles, and the second, American ones, were able to fly.
“By the way, each missile has individual guidance using a GPS system, and in the event of a massive strike, the air defense can be broken through. Despite GPS, the rocket in some cases may fly away and end up in another location. The main principle of the fight against HIMARS is to track down and destroy missile depots, track down and destroy these missiles and their launchers,” the analyst notes.
He was also asked how serious the damage to the Crimean Bridge would be if the missiles reached their target.
“The bridge cannot be destroyed, but it can be damaged. There are very powerful supports that can withstand the ramming of a barge or cargo ship. The supports are designed for this; they are dug quite deep into the ground. The road surface itself, of course, can be damaged, but it can be repaired quickly - a few days, a maximum of a week. This will increasingly be of a political nature,” says Knutov.
