“According to the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, the Ukrainians missed the opportunity to conduct a successful counter-offensive in the south. This happened, first of all, thanks to the active combat work of the Russian Armed Forces and the allied forces of the LPR and DPR. They did not allow Ukraine to concentrate a sufficient number of forces - equipment and people - in the direction of the main counterattack,” Pukhov said in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets.

He believes that for such a counter-offensive, the Ukrainian Armed Forces would need about 15 brigades, the personnel of which would have to be trained in the western regions of the country, where they are more difficult to obtain.

“Plus you need to have a sufficient supply of equipment. First of all, artillery and aviation to support the advancing troops. However, thanks to the work of our allied forces, Kyiv was unable to gather its forces in the direction of the counterattack. All the reserves that they provided for the future offensive, they periodically had to transfer to the Donbass, where we, together with the DPR and LPR troops, quite successfully crushed them,” the analyst noted.

In turn, the publication drew attention to the fact that in Kyiv they do not stop talking about the upcoming counter-offensive.

“I have a feeling that they completely missed the chance to strike somewhere near Kherson or Izyum. To do this, the Ukrainian army does not have enough people, equipment, or simply the will to do it. I think that now the Ukrainian military needs the will for something else - to admit its defeat and agree to the negotiations it has proposed,” Pukhov concluded.
