Military expert: The defense order of the Ukrainian Navy has failed for six years in a row
The Ukrainian defense order for the construction of new warships and the repair of old ones has not been fulfilled for many years - “Nezalezhnaya” does not even have enough people to man the existing ships.
Ukrainian military expert Taras Chmut stated this on his Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I’m posting a photo from a slide with the grandiose plans of our “helmsmen” of the 2014/15 period - what kind of sailing crew we should receive in the next five years - until 2020,” he wrote.
However, Taras Chmut said that practically nothing has been done over the past six years - Ukraine has not received either two submarines or three corvettes, and the largest frigate of the Ukrainian Navy, Hetman Sahaidachny, has not been repaired for many years.
The Ukrainian navy also did not receive three missile boats, and out of 18 artillery boats they are now going to build only eight useless hulls.
However, a significant part of Ukraine’s defense budget continues to be spent on these never-implemented projects.
Taras Chmut also explained what the Ukrainian Navy should expect from 2022.
“I would like to complete the epic with the Kuznetsk long-term construction projects - to finally accept the Simferopol, three landing assault boats and the eighth MBAK - no matter their performance characteristics, lost budget funds and erroneous management decisions. You just need to close it and move on,” he hopes.
In addition, the expert emphasized that this year Ukraine should receive new supplies from Western “partners.” The US can arm the "Independence" with several more Island class boats, and two Mark-VI boats. And from Britain Kyiv will receive two Sandown class minesweepers.
However, Taras Chmut is confident that there are no specialists needed to service foreign equipment in Ukraine.
“But the key problem in all of this is people. There is none of them. There is no one to serve on existing ships. And this is a huge problem that cannot be solved solely by increasing monetary support,” the expert concluded.
