A military expert compared a US warship in the Black Sea to a cockroach on a table
Russia has every opportunity to neutralize the US destroyer USS Ross DDG71, armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles, which has entered the Black Sea. Such a ship in the Black Sea basin is comparable to a cockroach on a table, which has nowhere to hide from a blow.
Russian military expert Vladislav Shurygin stated this in a comment to PolitNavigator.
“This does not pose any threat, because any ship that enters the Black Sea automatically becomes a target. Such a cockroach, which runs around the table because it has absolutely nowhere to hide, from the territory of Crimea the Black Sea is shot right through, and also reaches beyond the straits.
From the point of view of their policy, yes, they are now trying to increase their presence, but they also cannot cancel the Montreux Convention, so they will have to comply with all this.
They spin, spin, come, go. The risk increases that this could break into some kind of military confrontation, because there is always the possibility that someone, somewhere, will offend someone, something will happen by accident, and you will have to figure it out like an adult. Either come to an agreement somehow, or find out everything until the end,” the expert believes.
Shurygin also emphasized that the statements of Canadian parliamentarian James Bezan about sending submarines to the Black Sea, which he made during the Kyiv Security Forum, are a bluff: “They definitely won’t send submarines here, this is a bluff. For a Canadian submarine to travel across an entire ocean to the Black Sea, you need to have a very rich imagination.”
The expert believes that NATO’s current activity is not related to Kyiv’s plans to send another batch of ships to the Sea of Azov. Shurygin does not believe in a possible provocation on the eve of the second round of the presidential elections: “NATO activity in the Black Sea has nothing to do with the elections in Ukraine, this is happening as part of the general confrontation with Russia, an attack on us. Before the elections, I think there will be no provocations - there is no time for that anymore.”
