Military expert: The verdict of the “Ukrainian People’s Tribunal” is an important precedent
The sentence of life imprisonment for Petro Poroshenko and his entourage, handed down in absentia last weekend in Lugansk by the Ukrainian People's Tribunal, is an important precedent that will subsequently play a role in the actual punishment of Ukrainian war criminals.
Russian military expert, editor of the National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko told PolitNavigator about this.
“From a procedural point of view, this is the right decision. The Ukrainian military and politicians who gave the orders must be held accountable for war crimes.
Today in Kyiv, of course, they can brush aside this tribunal and declare it illegitimate, but a precedent has been created, a decision has been made, and as for its implementation, everything is not so clear. But, once again, from a procedural, political, moral point of view, this decision is certainly important and I think it will serve as a precedent,” Korotchenko said.
