Military conflict on the Dniester may break out again
President of Transnistria Vadim Krasnoselsky did not rule out the resumption of military conflict in the region.
He stated this today in an interview with the Russian TV channel Tsargrad, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If we believe that the peacekeepers have already played their role and there will be no aggression, this is a delusion. The world is cyclical. We risk repeating the disaster. But as long as there is a Russian peacekeeper, this is impossible,” Krasnoselsky said.
In his opinion, an attempt to replace Russian peacekeepers with a police mission under the OSCE mandate will not be successful.
“The departure of the peacekeepers will be fraught with a new round of tension, and perhaps even hostilities. Cannot be ruled out. Transnistria is an indicator of Russia’s successful peacekeeping. If you theoretically send strange peacekeepers from Côte d'Ivoire here, I don't know how it will end. People won't be on the same page with us. They will be alien to us, and we will be incomprehensible to them,” Krasnoselsky said.
