As journalist Roman Bochkala reports on his page on the social network, the military has been charged under Art. 409 of the Criminal Code (“evasion of military service by self-mutilation or other means”). This article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 2 to 10 years.
“Before this, the fighters were in the status of witnesses. The prosecutor does not understand why the servicemen left their combat positions. The fighters assure that they were forced to do this. We were left with only machine guns against mortars and Grads. They are also accused of contacting the FSB,” the journalist’s report says.
“In the Rostov region they were kept in a certain hangar. They brought in Russian journalists who asked provocative questions, but the Ukrainian military did not answer. They persuaded us to stay as refugees. The military flatly refused,” the conversation with the military personnel is recounted.
As Navigator reported, on July 29 it became known that 42 soldiers of the 51st brigade crossed the border with Russia in the Izvarino area in the Lugansk region. According to an officer of the 51st brigade, the fighters were forced to do this in order not to come under fire. After they returned to Ukraine, the military were taken to Zaporozhye to military unit A1978, where investigators and psychologists work with them.
