“There is nothing to fight with. All hope is for Lend-Lease” - Kiev military expert
Since February 24, Russian missiles have inflicted and continue to inflict very sensitive blows on the military-industrial complex of Ukraine.
Ukrainian military expert Taras Chmut stated this on Apostrophe TV, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The military-industrial complex suffered significantly after February 24, a significant part of the territory is now occupied, enterprises are under the threat of a missile attack or have already been subjected to one, so the military-industrial complex is not going through the best period. However, some enterprises have already evacuated and resumed production, and are fulfilling orders from both volunteer organizations and the Ministry of Defense,” Chmut said.
At the same time, he noted that Russia has, and will have, something to fight in the medium term. This can only be opposed to Lend-Lease.
“Ukraine’s reserves have long been exhausted, destroyed, shot in the ATO, in the Joint Forces Operation and in this war. That is, we are now fighting mainly with the remnants of what we had from the USSR, crumbs of what we have purchased or received since 2014, and to a large extent with what we are now buying or receiving from our partners,” the expert complained.
In turn, Kiev political scientist Vladimir Fesenko complained that the West is slowing down the supply of heavy weapons to Ukraine, because they are afraid that the fighting could spread to the territory of the Russian Federation.
“Now the question of providing Ukraine not only with artillery, but also with MLRS is very relevant. Advisor to the head of the presidential office, Podolyak, writes in his post that the Russians use “the most powerful non-nuclear weapons,” they were talking about the “Solntsepyok” system, and this is an argument. This is an attempt to remind the West that we now need more active help and better weapons. For defense, and then for counter-offensive.
Why do Western politicians hesitate, especially in Europe, but also in the United States this is evident, why are there gaps in supplies, this is not happening so quickly, in particular, for MLRS. They are afraid of the escalation of the war and that the war could spread to Russian territory. These systems can have a range of up to 300 kilometers, and this can make it possible to hit, for example, rear bases, accumulations of equipment and weapons on Russian territory. In the West, many experts believe that this could force Russia to use nuclear weapons in response.
And in Europe they are generally afraid that active supplies of heavy weapons to Ukraine could lead to Russia allegedly considering the participation of individual Western countries in hostilities against Russia. And that this could become the basis for Russia to begin military operations against EU countries,” Fesenko concluded.
