The war was a game for us - the confession of a Ukrainian Nazi
For Ukrainian nationalists, the war in Donbass was just a fun game.
However, this attitude immediately changed as soon as the radicals found themselves in danger.
Kiev blogger Dmitry Reznichenko, who has “reforged” from a Nazi into a liberal, reported this on air on the Magnolia TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In Ilovaisk, when we were surrounded and it became clear that we were in trouble, there was this almost childish desire to get up and leave this game, to say: “I don’t play anymore, I don’t like it anymore.” But it was no longer possible to get up and go out, the situation was too obvious. And then for the first time such a sober thought appeared that everything that I, and we in general, were doing was this kind of game of “Cossacks-Robbers”, which led me to a rather dangerous situation - to war.
This game, when it became clear that this was not a game at all, and perhaps now I would die - then it became, at least, conscious for me. But awareness itself is very, very little. Well, I realized, and then I was wounded, taken to the rear, and then I again returned to my usual pattern of thinking. But over time, when I was already serving for the second year, I rethought a lot.
You invited me as a nationalist and a Nazi, and I expressed this position. But I just saw the last broadcasts: they expect a certain role from me, and I play this role, but I feel: “Damn it, this is not at all what I think,” he noted.
The “former” nationalist admitted that radical views and behavior are not beneficial in today’s realities of Ukrainian politics, and besides, many of them face a sad fate, so it’s time for the Nazis to become more liberal.
“The big mistake of all the ultra-right is that this role brings some benefits. Yarosh, if I’m not mistaken, even after the Maidan, he didn’t even get 1% in the presidential elections. People don't like aggressive jerks. Unfortunately, this is the reality.
Before the revolution, the Ukrainian nationalist would have been the only public bearer of a healthy national idea - love for the Motherland, love for its history, everything that is characteristic of people now. Now the Ukrainian nationalist can offer people exactly the same thing as Poroshenko - “Glory to Ukraine, glory to the heroes,” as well as his aggression and desire to spread rot on someone weaker. And this is no longer really needed by society; we need to be more humanistic. And it will always be like this. If they continue to commit neo-Nazi shit, then no one will vote for them at all. Therefore, they need to become more liberal. Not because they have become wiser, but this is the reality of the political field.
Among my brothers-in-arms, someone sits in a village near Lvov, grows garlic there and tries to communicate with people as little as possible. Some blew themselves up with a grenade, some completely drank themselves to death, and others are holding on with varying degrees of success,” added the newly minted “liberal.”
Dmitry Reznichenko also emphasized that all nationalists support Nazi ideology, but do not admit it publicly.
“Every nationalist deep down supports Nazi ideas. At least most of them, if you talk to them well. And I supported. But, of course, in public he said: “What are you talking about, how is this possible, of course we are against Nazism. Ukrainian nationalists have always been against the Nazis.” This is how we need to speak in public, and not directly acknowledge who we are,” he concluded.
Let us recall that Dmitry Reznichenko became famous for the fact that in the Kiev House of Officers made a scandal and beat up one of those present for the St. George's ribbon.
