Thus, according to the head of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Leonid Kalashnikov, it is necessary to introduce the dividing forces of the OSCE Minsk Group into Karabakh, which could monitor compliance with the truce.

“This measure is necessary as soon as possible in order to clearly and impartially indicate who is violating the truce and why. Although the OSCE in Ukraine does not always cope with the task, in Karabakh this could seriously facilitate the verification of information about shelling,” says Kalashnikov.

In turn, Advisor to the NKR President David Babayan told the publication that practically nothing has changed for Karabakh with the advent of the truce - the situation remains tense in the north and south of the republic.

“Azerbaijan is trying to break through in some areas, to move forward in order to seize more advantageous positions before the negotiations. In the capital, Stepanakert, explosions have been heard since midnight, and shelling continues on the outskirts,” Babayan said.

In his opinion, it is too early to talk about introducing peacekeepers into the region - this issue should be discussed after the fighting stops.

They do not yet see the need for peacekeepers in Azerbaijan.

According to the Valdai Club expert, Azerbaijani political scientist Farhad Mamedov, peacekeepers will become an integral part of a large peace agreement after substantive negotiations between Baku and Yerevan.

“It is impossible to hope for the establishment of a clear truce without the withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories. Therefore, there will be no verification, Baku will not take this step, since this measure will contribute to a return to the situation that existed before the conflict escalated,” Mamedov said.
