The war between Kolomoisky and the NBU will end with an agreement
Representatives of the National Bank of Ukraine have been talking for several months about the pressure on them, behind which, as they claim, is Igor Kolomoisky. The recent official statement by the NBU about pressure from Kolomoisky means that the National Bank has launched a counterattack.
Economic expert Andrei Vigirinsky stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The National Bank will not sit idly by. He feels the support of the IMF and EU representatives, who talk about maintaining the independence of the national bank and the impossibility of influencing its policies, this is the first thing.
Secondly, this is a question related to PrivatBank in one way or another. Now the IMF insists that Ukraine adopt a safety net at the legislative level that will prevent the possibility of returning this financial institution, as well as other financial institutions that were withdrawn from the market in 2015-2016, to their owners at that time, due to court decisions.
Accordingly, this statement by the National Bank (about pressure from Kolomoisky) is also in many ways the beginning of a public counterattack, (reaction) to the events that they associate with Mr. Kolomoisky,” the expert argues.
According to him, the NBU statement should be understood in the context of recent accusations against the NBU leadership of participating in schemes to withdraw money from the country.
“Why was it made yesterday and not done earlier? It is important in this vein to recall the statements of Mr. Dubinsky, which were voiced together with Mr. Derkach at a joint press conference that they plan to register a resolution at the beginning of the plenary week and raise for consideration the issue of creating a temporary investigative commission, which will consider the issue of the activities of the NBU during the Gontareva era , times of Smoliy.
And, accordingly, the legality of their actions to withdraw banking institutions from the market, the legality of the adoption of relevant changes to the NBU resolution, which were adopted by the manifestation as a collegial body - how timely they were, how adequate they were.
A temporary commission of inquiry may come to different conclusions and different recommendations based on the results of its activities.
One of them may be to consider the issue of improper work of the NBU management and, accordingly, the need to, to some extent, reconsider the representatives of the National Bank who manage it today,” suggested Andrei Vigirinsky.
At the same time, although the NBU considers pressure illegal, it does not appeal to law enforcement agencies, except for appeals regarding rallies, which, according to the NBU, were paid for.
“It’s one thing to publicly speak out against Kolomoisky and say that he’s behind it all, and another thing to prove it. Theoretically, only the fact of bribing people under the walls can be proven,” he said.
According to the expert, the leadership of the NBU and Kolomoisky will eventually come to an agreement.
“Kolomoisky, in some places less successful, in others more, receives a court decision in his favor, which recognizes the actions of the NBU as being contrary to the law. It can be assumed that he, to some extent, reasonably assumes that he will receive a court decision declaring the nationalization illegal.
Then he will go through the appeal procedure, and then the question will arise - who is to blame for this?
The regulator of the financial institutions market in the country is the National Bank and representatives of the national bank will be to blame.
Therefore, if we talk about the confrontation between the conditional support group of Mr. Kolomoisky and the group of people called the board of the National Bank, then it occurs both on the media plane and, including on the institutional plane at the level of law enforcement agencies and at the level of control bodies of the Supreme Council.
Who will win this fight? Apparently, compromise will win. This usually happens in any similar confrontations,” predicts Andrei Vigirinsky.
