The war in Donbass is a direct consequence of the collapse of the Soviet Union. This was stated at a meeting of the Zinoviev Club in Moscow by Nikolai Pavlov, a deputy of the last convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, who voted against the ratification of the Belovezhskaya Accords.

“This is the most terrible war that you can imagine - a war on the territory of historical Russia. It's just delayed. Because the little ones quickly get excited and start biting and barking, while the big ones sway for a long time. More precisely, they are being rocked,” said Pavlov.
He considers the collapse of the Union itself to be artificial and provoked from the outside.
“I insist and affirm that since 1985 there has been purposeful preparation for the liquidation of the USSR. It was carried out within the depths of the country's top leadership and the KGB with direct contacts with the Americans. According to official data, $90 billion was spent on this,” Pavlov emphasized.
