Kyiv needs war to preserve the patriotic myth - Pogrebinsky
Moscow - Kyiv, January 19 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - The intensification of the operation in the area of the Donetsk airport is a reactive decision and an attempt to preserve the patriotic myth that in Ukrainian society has developed around the image of the airport and the “cyborgs” fighting in it, said RBC Kyiv political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky. The atmosphere in society is so heated and hysterical that if politicians do not comply with it, they risk losing their positions.

Let us recall that President Petro Poroshenko at the “Peace March” held on Sunday in Kyiv said that the Ukrainian government would regain control over all territories of Donbass: “Ukraine has demonstrated that it is a peace-loving European state. <…> We will not give up an inch of Ukrainian land. We will return Donbass, we will revive Ukrainianness in Donbass.”
The head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko, said on Sunday that Kyiv is trying to start a war. Kyiv security forces, according to him, fired at residential areas of Donetsk and Lugansk using large-caliber Grad and Uragan rocket systems. At least five civilians were killed on January 18 as a result of shelling of Donetsk by Ukrainian security forces, the Donetsk News Agency reported.
