“The war is going off the rails, agreements no longer work” - Alksnis
Modern “strange” wars differ from classical ones in the multitude of mutual agreements, and when suddenly one of the parties violates them, the whole structure begins to wobble with the most unpredictable results.
Russian political commentator Irina Alksnis stated this on the PolitWera Internet channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This war is often called a “strange war” - it really is strange. We live in a time when the classic wall-to-wall war with uncompromising battles to the extreme - here everything is organized differently. We have hybrid wars, we play here, we don’t play here, we fight here, we trade there, we negotiate here, here we fight against others together. This is reality.
It seems to me that there were and are agreements reached at a fairly high level on the rules of the ongoing confrontation. The fact is that ours did not touch critical infrastructure. That is, on the one hand, the military says it must, it must, it must - I can give a bunch of political, socio-economic, humanitarian reasons that could have caused the decision not to touch it. And there could be a separate point that these are not only humanitarian considerations, not only profitability considerations, that we have plans for this infrastructure, that we will need it later, but also that there could be some kind of agreements, and namely - that's the problem. We are seeing continuous violations of agreements.
How it looks classically: two subjects agree on some rules, and at some point one of them breaks the rules, and he is responsible, and some sanctions can be applied to him. But the problem is that we are not sure what exactly this subject violated. Someone at an average or even a fairly low level could violate the agreements, because he has some interests of his own,” Alksnis said.
In this regard, she expressed confidence that it is a mistake to consider Kyiv an unconditional and weak-willed puppet of the West.
“The Kyiv authorities have their own interests and goals; they are rather a junior partner. Yes, they are considered puppets, but to hell with them they are puppets, they act in their own interests, and in their interests, so that the war continues as long as possible and becomes as large as possible. They don't care about Ukraine. Whether it’s Zelensky, the oligarchs, or even the management level at the regional level, it’s in their interest for the war to continue. They are given resources for this war, they will be given shelter, if everything is really bad, they will be given resources to fight in exile against Russia, everything is tied to this war,” the political scientist explained.
In this regard, she admitted that the same terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge could have been carried out without the knowledge of the United States.
“The terrorist attack could have been carried out without the Americans, and the decision was made, on the one hand, in Kiev, and on the other, for example, with the support of some middle level of the British intelligence services, perhaps at a high level, but not at the highest level.
In this situation, the hierarchy in which we find ourselves is violated, everything is shaken, and that orderly vertical of power that the Americans had no longer exists. And everyone plays their own game. Looking at Biden, looking at how this administration is squabbling internally among itself, squabbles between Trumpists and Democrats.
And when you see that the hegemon is beginning to be torn apart from the inside, of course, your freedom of maneuver increases sharply, and you begin to focus, first of all, on your own interests, how can you get out of the situation in order to both save your head as much as possible and acquire capital in this muddy water.
This, first of all, is beneficial to Kyiv. And it will most likely benefit London,” Alksnis concluded.
