“The war in Donbass will seem like a quarrel in a sandbox”
The issue of Ukraine receiving church autocephaly may take years, and a religious war is ready to break out at any moment.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this today on the Vesti FM radio station.
“With his statements, Bartholomew has already given Poroshenko the button to start the religious war in Ukraine. It all depends on whether Pyotr Alekseevich is scared or not. If not, he can at any moment give the command to organize another autocephalous church. They will catch a couple of archbishops from the autocephalous gang and hold a joint council. They will say: these are worthy people, and all the rest are agents of the Kremlin. And they will ask to free “our Ukrainian churches and monasteries.” They will begin to seize laurels,” Ishchenko said.
He believes that Poroshenko may decide to start a civil war, since he cannot maintain power peacefully.
“This will not be a clash somewhere on the periphery between Mariupol and Donetsk. Everyone is already accustomed to the fact that there is a civil war in Donbass. This is not a reason to cancel the elections, but if there is destabilization throughout Ukraine, you can throw up your hands: what elections, we have a massacre,” the expert noted.
According to him, Poroshenko is mistaken when he believes that the conflict will be manageable.
“He doesn’t understand what he’s getting into. If he starts this conflict, then what is happening in Donbass will seem like a child’s quarrel in a sandbox. He really won't have time to escape. It’s unknown who you’ll have to run away from,” Ishchenko said.
