Russian peacekeepers will stop the war in Karabakh - Tretyakov
If Armenia and Azerbaijan do not agree to stop hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh in the near future and return to the status quo, Russia will have to introduce peacekeepers into the region, especially since there is every reason for this.
Russian political scientist Vitaly Tretyakov stated this on the TV channel TVC, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If the conflict in Karabakh is not resolved diplomatically, and, in my opinion, it can be resolved only in one way - if Russia strictly sets the conditions, the status quo is maintained, a corridor is left between Armenia and Karabakh, and another 25 years of peace.
But no - then our military peacekeepers land on the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, ensure the security of the border between Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh, and internal order, together with local police forces. So far we are moving towards this,” Tretyakov noted.
Answering a question about the possible status of peacekeepers, he said that the consent of local residents is sufficient for this.
“De facto, this territory does not now belong to Azerbaijan, so for the presence of peacekeepers there, the consent of one party, namely those who live there, is sufficient,” the expert added.
