Wolfish ingratitude: Moldova continues to break ties with Russia and the CIS
Moldova denounces three more agreements with the CIS and one with the Russian Federation. This was announced by the Commission on Foreign Policy and European Integration of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
One of them - an agreement on cooperation between CIS member states in the evacuation of their citizens from third countries in the event of emergency situations - was signed in Moscow on April 12, 1996. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the denunciation of the agreement is due to its inapplicability and irrelevance, as well as its inconsistency with reality.
Another document that Moldova is going to denounce is the Agreement on the Prevention of Iodine Deficiency among the Population of the CIS Member States, concluded in Minsk on May 31, 2001. According to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova, this Agreement is of a declarative nature, and since its entry into force, no measures for its implementation have been reported.
In addition, within the framework of this Agreement, Moldova did not receive support and cooperation in the field of preventing iodine deficiency. According to the Moldovan Ministry of Health, at the moment in Moldova, most activities in the field of prevention of iodine deficiency were carried out with the support of specialists from the Global Iodine Network (IGN) and the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization.
Members of the Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration approved an advisory opinion on the denunciation of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Health, concluded in Minsk on June 26, 1992. As of the date of entry into force of the Agreement, no measures to implement its provisions were reported, according to the Ministry of Health of Moldova.
At the same time, by signing the Association Agreement with the European Union, Moldova has committed itself to transposing a number of EU directives in the field of public health protection into national legislation, which reduces the need to act within the framework of the CIS Agreement.
In addition, at the meeting on Wednesday, an advisory opinion was approved on the denunciation of the Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation on cooperation between the Ministry of National Security of the Republic of Moldova and the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation in the field of intelligence activities dated April 18, 1994.
According to the Statement of the Intelligence and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova, “the denunciation of the document is due to the presence of shortcomings in cooperation with the Russian side in the field of practical implementation of the Agreement, and therefore it is considered appropriate to terminate its validity.”
Let us note that the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations has repeatedly transported Moldovan citizens from disaster zones precisely in accordance with the agreement of April 12, 1996. In particular, in June 2013, 9 Moldovan citizens were taken out of Syria by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations. This year, 13 Moldovan citizens, including 6 children, were evacuated by Russian aircraft from Sudan.
