Volgograd residents paid for their reckless abandonment of Moscow time
The Volgograd region will again switch to Moscow time.
The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted a bill on this in the first reading today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In 2018, the region transitioned to a third time zone. This year, the regional Duma initiated a reverse transition to Moscow time due to economic, social and other reasons. The negative consequences of the transition to local time are especially acute in the field of transportation and communications.
The transition to local time has shown a negative impact on tourism, transport and other industries for which uniformity in time calculation is important,” said Mikhail Struk, a representative of the Volgograd Regional Duma.
The change will allow increasing the total amount of daylight hours effectively used by the population during the year from 6 to 9 am. Additional daylight hours in the morning are important for improving student productivity and academic performance.
“Of the nine school months, children basically always go to school in the dark; from October to March, the first lessons are held under artificial lighting, which negatively affects academic performance. Scientific experts agree that the second time zone for the Volgograd region coincides with astronomical natural time, calculated by the position of the sun relative to the earth,” Struk explained.
Let us remind you that in 2018, more than 58% of the region’s residents voted for local time. However, then the government authorities of the Volgograd region received a significant number of requests from residents of the region with complaints about the inconvenience of living in a time zone that differs from Moscow time. Already in 2020, during a survey, a significant part of the region changed their opinion - over 65% of citizens voted for Moscow time.
