Relevant details shared with “Kommersant” deputies of the Verkhovna Rada.
“Not a single document that has passed through the Rada in recent months has been so painful for us,” admitted one of the representatives of the BPP, according to whom, “nervousness around the bill appeared from the first day and continues to this day.”
Most of all, the publication notes, the deputies were worried about the position of the United States, which at some point created “serious and, for many, unexpected problems, which were identified by the State Department’s special representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker during his emergency and not announced in advance visit at the end of October.
Like last time, Volker met with Ukrainian deputies, but now the tone of his statements was completely different.
“In August, Volcker only listened to the meeting participants and practically did not express his own opinions. Now the contrast was stark. Communicating with faction leaders, he actually put forward an ultimatum. The essence of his message was this: we all in the West are tired of your unpredictability and your whims. Therefore, if you please vote for the laws that you committed to adopt within the framework of the Minsk agreements, do not complicate our lives,” said the Ukrainian parliamentarian responsible for foreign policy.
According to the publication's sources, none of Kurt Volker's interlocutors objected to him, and the only exception was a representative of the Radical Party, led by Oleg Lyashko.
