Volker congratulated Poroshenko and Parubiy
US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker congratulated Ukraine on the extension of the law “on the status of ORDLO”, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I congratulate Petro Poroshenko, Andriy Parubiy and the Ukrainian parliament on the extension of their special status. Big step. Ukraine is making its contribution to achieving peace. Now it's Russia's turn. Disappointed that a number of major political figures did not support this important step,” Volcker wrote on Twitter.
Let us recall that according to the Minsk agreements, Ukraine pledged to provide special status to certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. The corresponding law was adopted in 2014, but was never applied due to sabotage from official Kyiv. According to the law, in certain areas of the two regions not controlled by Ukraine, elections of local authorities were to be held. However, the elections never took place, and the special status for the DPR and LPR remained on paper.
