Volker, unlike Nuland, does not hate Russia
The US State Department's Special Representative for Ukraine, Kurt Volker, is working to resolve the conflict in Donbass on a voluntary basis.

American political scientist Dmitry Simes stated this today on the Rossiya 1 TV channel.
“He didn’t come out of retirement. He headed the McCain Institute in recent years. He has not returned to government service; he receives nothing for his work. He does this on a voluntary basis and has agreed to carry out this mission for a year. He does this out of American patriotism and the desire of a professional diplomat to get results,” Simes said.
He is confident that Volcker wants to reach an agreement without humiliating Russia.
“He is a tough negotiator, he was a NATO ambassador, he is an Atlanticist in his convictions. But unlike the notorious Victoria Nuland, he has no hatred for Russia. He has no desire, when he speaks with Surkov, to do so in a way that humiliates Russia and Putin personally. He wants to get the best result in Donbass, but do it in a way that is acceptable to Russia. But this, it seems to me, will be very, very difficult,” the expert believes.
