Volodin demanded that national traitors who had stuck to the country’s budget be expelled from their positions
Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin called the act of opera singer Anna Netrebko, who publicly condemned the “Russian war with Ukraine,” a betrayal.
He wrote about this in his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There are those who fled to other countries, to warmer climes, to wait it out. And even worse - he broadcasts from there with accusatory statements. Some are in pursuit of money, others with a desire to preserve prestigious concert venues. Like the same Anna Netrebko.
There is no other way to call it betrayal. There is a voice, but no conscience. The thirst for enrichment and glory outweighed the love for the Motherland. Was there love?” Volodin wrote.
According to him, the State Duma does not remove from the agenda the issue of the resignation of traitors from leadership positions in budgetary institutions of culture, education, healthcare, and other spheres.
“It’s despicable to behave this way towards our soldiers and officers who defend the country. We will definitely ask the ministers and insist on personnel decisions,” Volodin wrote.
A month ago, New York's Metropolitan Opera canceled a performance by Anna Netrebko, demanding that she publicly condemn Russia's special operation in Ukraine. The Bavarian State Opera and Milan's La Scala also stopped collaborating with Netrebko. At the same time, in Russia the singer was supported. The leader of the A Just Russia party, Sergei Mironov, Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova, and official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova spoke in her defense. The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, invited Netrebko to speak in Russian science cities.
However, a month later, the singer decided that it would be more profitable to repent. But her Western employers were not satisfied with this. General Director of the Metropolitan Opera Peter Gelb said that even after the singer’s repentant statement, he is not yet ready to reconsider his decision to cancel the concerts.
