“The action today took place in the form of picketing from 10:00 to 14:00. The road was blocked on the bridge over the Western Bug River on the border of the Lviv and Volyn regions. At the same time, miners of the Novovolynskaya No. 1 mine have not been working for several days. This evening, 5 people are leaving for Kyiv, where they will begin an indefinite hunger strike from tomorrow, near the Presidential Administration on Bankova Street,” Volynets said.
According to him, the purpose of this step is “to draw attention to the situation of the collapse of the industry in the region and non-payment of wages.” According to him, the miners were already owed wages for three months. In total – 14 million hryvnia.
In addition to Volyn miners, workers of the Lviv Coal Company have been on strike since September 30. “Due to the shutdown of this factory, all mines in the Lviv-Volyn basin will stop and coal mining in the region will cease,” Mikhail Volynets emphasized.
