“Egregious situation”: Ukrainian police are leaving the Ukrainian police en masse
Over the past ten months, one and a half times more employees have left the Patrol Police Department of the Kharkov region than in the entire previous year.
This was stated by the head of the UPP Alena Strizhak during a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Law Enforcement Issues in Kharkov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Every day 51 patrol police crews go to the city, and I don’t have any on foot. As of now, I want to report that over the past 10 months, one and a half times more police officers have quit than last year. I have a growing shortage now,” she said.
Strizhak emphasized that mass layoffs are caused by low wages and the decline in the prestige of the profession in the eyes of the population, and at this rate the police will be paralyzed by 2022.
“We now have an appalling situation. I don't have any on foot. The Patrol Police Department, the regional council, and the city council provided funding for the repair of vehicles. This problem has been resolved. But I don’t have people who will ride in these cars,” summed up the head of the UPP.
