Moscow will resolve the issue of Ukraine without the participation of Kyiv
A meeting between the presidents of the Russian Federation and Ukraine should not be expected in the near future.
This was stated by Kiev political scientist Ruslan Bortnik, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He disagrees with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, who said that Ukraine is under external control, and therefore there is no point in meeting with its President Vladimir Zelensky.
The expert calls the thesis about external control of Kiev exaggerated. According to him, the influence of Western partners on Ukraine is significant and even decisive, but we are still not talking about full-fledged governance.
“The President of Russia justifies the lack of negotiations by saying that the Ukrainian leadership is hostile and incapable of negotiating due to external dependence. He seems to be making it clear that he wants to talk about Ukraine with Biden, Macron or Merkel. Thus, Putin does not seek to bring the meeting closer, but also does not reject its idea, because otherwise he would fall under international condemnation due to his reluctance to peace, unconstructiveness, and so on,” Bortnik asserts.
