Thieves' power: Ukrainian minister bailed out a corrupt colleague
The Solomensky District Court of Kyiv released the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladimir Omelyan, who is suspected of illegal enrichment, on bail; the guarantor was the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Igor Zhdanov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The court made this decision at a meeting on Friday.
Earlier, detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) suspected Omelyan of illegal enrichment and declaring false information about property.
According to investigators, Omelyan’s income from the civil service does not correspond to his expenses. In addition, the minister, according to investigators, entered false information into his income declaration regarding two cars and the house in which he lived with his family.
In 2017, the bureau conducted searches of Omelyan. An investigation has been launched against him under the articles “declaring false information” and “illegal enrichment.”
