This is stated in an open letter to the head of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino from eight American senators, published on the website of the US Senate.

“As an organization with the power to impact the lives of billions of fans, athletes and workers around the world, FIFA must live up to its human rights obligations. Protecting workers and athletes from forced labor must be a key element of these obligations. If FIFA does not take action against the Russian Federation and North Korea, it will be perceived as tolerance for the disgusting behavior of these countries,” said the senators, led by Democrat Robert Menendez.

The world's premier sporting event should not be "built on the backs of the world's most vulnerable people," he said. Thus, in the letter, US senators call for an investigation into Western media reports about the alleged exploitation of North Korean workers at the construction site of the World Cup stadium in Russia.

In addition, the senators called on FIFA President Gianni Infantino to consider disqualifying the Russian Federation as host of the 2018 World Cup “if an independent investigation establishes that the Russian government or the local organizing committee were complicit in the forced labor of North Korean construction workers.”

In this case, the most ordinary practice of double standards takes place, since it is obvious that, regardless of the degree of veracity of specific reports about North Korean workers at sports construction sites in the Russian Federation, authoritative international organizations generally recognize that the problem of the use of forced and slave labor is of a global nature, and is inherent not only RF, but also the USA itself. In addition, withaccording to US State Department reports, countries such as Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Azerbaijan and even Taiwan. However, American senators were in no hurry to demand, for example, to take away the right to host Eurovision from Kyiv, and from Azerbaijan the Asian Games that recently took place there.
