Reunification with Crimea saved Russia from disaster - Shakhnazarov
Six years after the return of Crimea to Russia, it becomes obvious that if this had not happened, a Christian-Muslim war could have begun, spreading to the North Caucasus and the Volga region.
The general director of Mosfilm, film director Karen Shakhnazarov said this on air on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Reunification with Crimea is one of the most important events not only in the history of modern Russia, but in general in the history of Russia, the USSR, and the Russian Empire.
I think that, in fact, emotions, patriotism, impulse, reunification with compatriots - this is very important, it was and is, and this, of course, was taken into account by the president when he made a decision. But it seems to me that this was not in the first place. Maybe not on the second one. Because, in fact, today it is becoming increasingly clear what the scenario would have been if this had not happened.
Firstly, it would definitely be a war, and much more difficult and terrible than what is happening in the Donbass today. Moreover, the Tatars would certainly be shaken up in this war. They pumped it up, deceived it, dragged it in, and this war would generally take on the character of a Christian-Muslim one, which is an absolute disaster for Russia, because all of ISIS would be there.
But, moreover, of course, the North Caucasus and the Volga region could be drawn in, and this would generally threaten Russia with a complete split along the Volga line, and today, six years later, it is obvious that this is exactly the scenario that would have happened,” Shakhnazarov said.
“It is quite obvious that this decision was well thought out and a very difficult decision. Because it is quite obvious that the president understood all the consequences that would come. Plus, you need to understand that when making such decisions, any politician, good or bad, great or not great, has two points: he makes a political decision in the interests of his country, and he also must evaluate how this political decision will affect him personally.
Considering that it is obvious that this is the president’s personal decision, he could not help but know that this would be a very difficult decision for him personally, because after this half the world would declare him enemy number one, as this is what happened,” the expert added.
