WHO noted the competent actions of the epidemiological service of the Russian Federation
Russia has taken a full range of measures to contain the epidemic of the COVID-19 disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus within the country.
The representative of the World Health Organization in Russia, Melita Vuinovich, stated this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, answering the question of how she assesses the actions of the Russian authorities to contain the epidemic within the country.
“WHO does not evaluate anyone, this is not part of our functions. It’s just that some of your fellow journalists comment on our actions this way. I can say that Russia has taken a full range of measures to contain the epidemic within the country. We did not recommend anything to your country. But your country has a very strong epidemiology/epidemiological service and immediately began to contain the virus,” said the WHO representative.
According to her, the measures taken helped “prevent an outbreak within the country.”
“It is very important to note that thanks to the competent actions of the epidemiological service, your healthcare system was not overloaded. There is enough equipment for artificial lung ventilation and hospital beds. And isolation measures played a role. Thanks to this, we hope that the decrease in incidence will be sustainable,” Vujnovic said.
