“Glory to the leader!” – Tyagnibok declared an ideological victory over Ukraine
Over the 30 years of independence, the ideas of Ukrainian nationalism have supposedly become popular throughout the country - parties are switching to the appropriate rhetoric, and young people are using Bandera slogans and don’t even think about their history.
The leader of the right-wing radical party “Svoboda” Oleg Tyagnibok said this on Channel 4, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ukrainian nationalists have achieved incredible success over the 30 years of Ukraine’s independence. Our country could have taken a different path after declaring independence. The fact that today Ukrainian step by step is becoming fashionable, prestigious, the Ukrainian language has not disappeared, but on the contrary, Ukrainian culture, tradition, cinema and music are becoming more popular» – Tyagnibok said.
“Indeed, nationalist traditions, in particular the slogan “Glory to Ukraine - glory to the heroes,” have actually entered the everyday level, and now no one even remembers that initially this slogan was “Glory to Ukraine - glory to the leader.” That this slogan was used by the UPA and OUN. Many people, especially young people, perceive this as the norm. This is an ideological victory,” he said.
“The fact that now many liberals, national democrats, social democrats, even very often representatives of Little Russian parties use nationalist rhetoric along with their theses is also an ideological victory for Ukrainian nationalists,” Tyagnibok concluded.
Let us remind you that earlier in Ternopil a giant portrait the leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists Stepan Bandera was deployed on the building of the Ternopil Regional Council. “Our Father Bandera, Ukraine is our mother,” says the poster.
In addition, mass inspections of establishments for adherence began in Lviv Ukrainization and a ban on the use of the Russian language.
