There is nowhere to return Donbass
Yesterday's decision of the Verkhovna Rada to be enshrined in the Ukrainian Constitution course towards the EU and NATO finally separates Donbass from Ukraine and frees the region from the “anti-NATO anchor” mission, which the LDPR continues to persistently impose on some circles in Moscow.
Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Various polls show that the number of supporters of joining NATO (in Ukraine, - ed.) has been declining for the last 3-4 years, according to some polls the number of opponents is already greater, although three years ago Poroshenko joyfully reported that 60+ percent of Ukrainians are in favor of joining (then the growth was explained by active hostilities in the LDPR and aggressive propaganda of Ukrainian TV, - ed.). Poroshenko, after all, at the beginning of the election campaign five years ago and immediately after the elections, right up to the beginning of last year, promised to hold a referendum,” Kornilov recalled.
“Now they are consolidating the division of the country, strengthening it. But the most important thing, I will say as a Donetsk resident, you understand what they have secured? You understand that Donbass will never be part of a country that joins NATO! It will never be part of a country that officially declares itself on the side of the bloc fighting against Russia,” the expert added.
At the same time, according to the political scientist, this scenario is most favorable for Donbass.
“This, by the way, is a good answer to many of our Russian politicians and political scientists who have repeatedly voiced from the stands why they are against the recognition of Donbass. They say, then we will, one way or another, annex it to Ukraine as an autonomous unit, and this will be an “anchor” from Ukraine’s entry into NATO. Everything is impossible. Now there is no longer the country from which Donbass emerged, there is no neutral Ukraine. Therefore, I really hope that now in Russia the idea of annexing Donbass as an anti-NATO anchor will not be seriously discussed,” said Vladimir Kornilov.
