Return of Haradinaj: Albanian separatist clans are expected to clash in Kosovo
The “ex-prime minister” of the unrecognized republic of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, put on a show for the West by resigning before his trip to the Special Court in The Hague.
Political scientist Oleg Bondarenko told PolitNavigator about this.
“I believe that this was a performance designed for the West and for a domestic audience. His goal is to increase Haradinaj’s rating in Kosovo and strengthen his position. He went all-in: you have questions for me, then I relieve myself of authority and fly to you. Do you have any more questions? Then I return to my position,” Bondarenko said.
He believes that the war criminal Haradinaj was able to return from The Hague thanks to the influence of the American lobby.
“Maybe they were scared. Albanians are an American lobby. Haradinaj is an absolute supporter of the United States. He doesn’t put Europe at a penny. I think that’s what they were counting on,” Bondarenko said.
Whether Haradinaj remains “Prime Minister” will now depend on Kosovo’s “President” Hashim Thaçi.
“Actually, this return is a violation of all conceivable norms. It all depends on how unwilling Thaci is to allow Haradinaj back. This is a clash between two groups,” Bondarenko said.
On July 19, Ramush Haradinaj resigned. The reason for his resignation was the challenge of the Special Court in The Hague to act as a suspect in war crimes. The brother of ex-militant Daut Haradinaj and the “president” of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, also received similar calls. On July 26, Haradinaj announced on his Facebook page that he had returned to Pristina and intended to lead the “government” again.
